This Montreal-based duo will pull you in and make you groove with their clean beats, dreamy synthesizers, and evocative vocals. Their sound is reminiscent of ‘80s synth pop like Depeche Mode, but with a spacious ambience that feels thoroughly modern.
Flowers and Sea Creatures have also managed to turn some serious heads in both the electronic underground and the alt-rock overground since their first release in 2011.
Singer Graham Baxter was born in Belfast while Megalos was born in Athens and the two immigrated to Montreal while in their youth, where they met and started writing together and playing in local bars.
Stripping out the beats they create a rich and woozy ambient dream that earned them further acclaim and airplay from BBC Radio 1's Rob Da Bank and Pete Tong. With airplay and sessions for XFM, 6Music and Radio 1 already under their belt, plus warm underground club support coming from future-facing DJs like Visionquest, Sebo K and Andre Lodemann, not to mention noted journalists at several monthlies and broadsheets now checking their movements, their first album was released in September 2011 and was followed up by gigs in the UK and Europe.
With favorable reviews by Dorian Lynskey (The Guardian), Rolling Stone magazine, and MOJO magazine, Flowers and Sea Creatures most recent release is the club track ‘No One Gets Left Behind’ a collaboration with DJ Yelllow (Alain Ho), due out on Munich based label, Compost Records in September 2013, while their EP is due out late fall on My Favorite Robot Records, run by the Montreal outfit of the same name.
The duo will be playing Pop Montreal, on September 27th at the SAT.
