There are lots of reasons why we’re excited about our new Espace POP, but the one that comes up the most (usually around lunch and dinnertime…) is that we get to share the neighbourhood with some of the best places to eat in Montréal, from cafés to juice bars to world-famous bagelmakers. Check out our guide below for a tour of a few of our favourite spots.
La Tasse Gamine
5658A Ave du Parc

La Tasse Gamine’s bright, family-friendly space is more than the sum of its parts. Toys, books, and play space are only a small part of this family haven, which also features a full organic menu and family-oriented workshops. But, just because they hold one-of-a-kind events like children’s yoga and serve artisan lunches (“pita and coriander pesto pizzas”) doesn’t mean they overlook the little things—its also a great place to stop in for lemonade and cookies.
Aux Lilas, known to passersby as the delightful purple outcropping next to the YMCA on Parc Avenue, is one of the best-kept neighbourhood secrets of Lebanese cuisine in Mile End. Ranging from freshly-made (as in, freshly cooked) falafel to full dinner, lunch, and take-out menus; vegetarian options and a friendly staff ready to make suggestions on their full list of Lebanese wine, this establishment has remained an area constant since 1980.
EM Café
5718 Ave du Parc
http://emcafe.ca/Featuring a wide variety of organic bread, pastries, and artisanal coffees, this is a great place for an intimate breakfast or working lunch. EM Café also has a dedication to local artists, and curates a different visual artist every month.

Boulangerie, Charcuterie St Viateur
102 Saint Viateur
The bakery at Saint Urbain and Saint Viateur with lines out the door. Known across the board for its pastries, bread, and cheese; enormous apple turnovers and cheap, delicious slices of freshly made pizza.

O jus
5443 Ave du Parc
This juice bar just at the corner of Saint Viateur and Parc sees anyone from healthy-minded smoothie drinkers fresh from their YMCA workout to those wanting to duck in from the cold for a warm cup of soup and a toasted sandwich. Friendly staff and the freshest fruits and veggies make this a favourite neighbourhood lunch spot.
An establishment that needs no introduction. This bagel-ry in the heart Mile End sells over 12,000 bagels a day. Open 24 hours, it feeds the city’s early risers and satisfies those late-nighters who are lucky enough to be passing through the Mile End on their way home.
