Lhasa de Sela found her identity in the depths of her heart, in the rhythm of her steps and in her inner musical world.

Her artistic path was profound, radical and at once ineffable and deeply personal. She touched the hearts of many people and no label placed upon her does justice to her humanity and the beauty of her art.

Born into a family of diverse origins, living an itinerant childhood between Mexico and the United States, Lhasa sang in many languages, and her music and poetry emanated outward across the world.

Of the many places she lived,it was in Montreal that Lhasa finally discovered a sense of rootedness, in this city she came to treasure as fertile ground from which so much of her music was created.

In this city, throughout her career, Lhasa had the good fortune to be surrounded by many great musicians and craftsmen in the world of music, with whom she shared her artistic path and forged strong bonds of friendship.

And so it is in this city, in her beloved neighborhood, and in this theatre where she had always dreamed of singing, that a number of her close friends and companions on her musical journey invite the public of Montreal to attend this singular event.

This project has been organized in collaboration with POP Montreal, which has warmly supported it since its beginnings.

This event at the Rialto is meant to bring together the musical community Lhasa built for herself, to pay tribute to a beautiful singer, a beautiful person, and the lives she touched.

Lhasa said that a song is alive because someone has dreamed so urgently to create it. May her music continue to inhabit our lives and dreams.
