4 Reasons NOT TO MISS Bike-In 2011
1.Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains
Although produced in 1981 it wasn't until 1985 that this cult flick had a limited theatrical run through art-house cinemas in the states. It stars a 15 year old Diane Lane launching a band-cum-socio-political movement predicated on red blouses, black tights and the idea that every young woman ''should be given an electric guitar for her 16th birthday.'' Other highlights include a 13 year old Laura “Paleo-Botanist Ellie Sattler” Dern, appearances by members of your favourite UK punk bands, and it was written by music industry insider Lou Adler.
2.Beating the Heat
So, how about this heat wave, eh? With a high of 30º C and a low of 22º C, Saturday is going to be way too hot to do anything else. Come hang out with us – it's free. We'll have cold beers and cheap food. Pre-screening water-fight anyone?
3.Support Film POP
This is Film POP's seventh year of screening new independent cinema and its unsung cinematic forbears. This year's programming, curated by Kier-La Janisse, looks as strong as ever. So come out and show some love for Film POP - where movies and music make out in the dark.
4.Bonus
DJ Annie Q, veteran of the POP Montreal party decks, will be bringing the coolest tunes all afternoon long. There will also be a half hour selection of music videos highlighting Canadian contributions to Riot Grrrl and as well as some Pre- and Post-Riot Grrrl rock. Featuring videos by local favourites Pantyhös, Lesbians on Ecstasy, & live footage of Hand Cream.
