Le groupe québécois de l'heure revient aux Francos nous présenter son plus récent album, le très acclamé et très solide Labyrinthes. Après avoir traversé le Canada quasi de bord en bord, Malajube a joué en France, en Allemagne, aux Pays-Bas, en Belgique, aux États-Unis et dans quelques autres pays avant d'envahir le Métropolis de ses chansons puissantes et intransigeantes. Des représentants dont on peut être vraiment fiers !
En première partie, Les Dales Hawerchuck, qui avaient inauguré la tournée de leur 2e album aux Francos en 2008, viennent présenter le dernier show de cette même tournée, toujours aux Francos !

That's right. The co-originator of the Wainwright legacy is descending upon us in October, in the context of the next edition of the festival. Voir spilled the beans before even we did, but maybe you don't know what all the fuss is about. The Dylan-inspired singer-songwriter (just check out the Swimming Song) went on to star in M*A*S*H, as well as a slew of other shows, and has composed the type of tunes that have made many films you've all seen, such as 'Squid and the Whale'.

Fever Ray est un projet de pop de champs gauche mené par Karin Dreijer Anderson de The Knife (le duo suédois auquel elle participeavec son frère Olof et dont le plus récent album s'est mérité six Grammyen Suède). Le premier album éponyme de Fever Ray se veut d'ailleurs une suite surprenante à ce fameux Silent Shout qui s'est fait aussi remettre le titre de « meilleur album de l'année » par Pitchforkmedia en 2006. Fever Ray capture autant le spleen poétique d'Anderson que les instrumentations étonnantes auxquelles elle nous a habitués au fil desannées.

Le concert de Fever Ray lors du Festival International de Musique POPMontréal se veut aussi le premier concert canadien de ce nouveau projetqui s'offre rarement en prestation à l'extérieur de son pays natal.Après la Suède, c'est autour de Montréal de tomber sous le charme de Fever Ray!

Le projet post rock japonais Mono est finalement de retour à Montréal! Pour ceux qui se demandaient comment leur plus récent compact Hymn to the Immortal Wind (lancé en mars dernier) est reproduit sur scène, vous serez servis… et sûrement émus.

Just in time for their 10-year anniversary, MONO return with their fifth studio album, the absolutely massive Hymn To The Immortal Wind.

After touring almost non-stop for five years, the band hibernated for over a year to focus solely on writing Hymn. The result is their most thoughtful and eclectic album to date. Written and arranged with a hopeful, romantic narrative in mind, the songs string together like chapters in an epic love story. The music is naturally majestic, with MONO’s trademark wall of noise crashing beautifully against the largest chamber orchestra the band has ever enlisted. The instrumentation is vast, incorporating strings, flutes, organ, piano, glockenspiel and tympani into their standard face-melting set-up.

Recorded to analog tape with long-time friend and producer Steve Albini, there is an intimacy captured here that is at once beautiful and a little terrifying. The creaking of old wooden chairs as the orchestra rocks in their seats (both literally and figuratively), puckered lips rolling along flutes, and even the conductor’s opening cue can be heard during the hauntingly quiet opening moments

While Hymn continues to mine the cinematic drama inherent in all of MONO's music, the dynamic shifts now come more from dark-to-light instead of quiet-to-loud. The maturity to balance these elements so masterfully has become MONO’s strongest virtue.

Lou Barlow is a founding member of the groups Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh and The Folk Implosion, Barlow is also credited with helping to pioneer the lo-fi style of rock music in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Dinosaur Jr est un groupe de rock indépendant américain originaire de Amherst dans le Massachusetts. Le groupe a tout d'abord commencé sous le nom de Dinosaur, mais a rapidement changé car un autre groupe portant le même nom les menaça de poursuites en justice s’ils ne le modifiaient pas. Le groupe sort ses trois premiers albums sous sa formation originale, puis Lou Barlow quitte le groupe pour former Sebadoh, Sentridoh et Folk Implosion. L'album qui suit, "Green Mind" peut être en quelque sorte considéré comme un album solo de Jay Mascis car il a enregistré seul tous les instruments. Le groupe intègre ensuite Mike Johnson à la basse pour les concerts et l'enregistrement des albums. En 1993, ils participent à la B.O. du film Judgment Night avec le rappeur Del tha Funkee Homosapien. En 1997, sur le dernier album, Murph, parti jouer avec les The Lemonheads, est remplacé par George Berz. En 2004, le groupe se reforme dans sa composition d'origine dans le cadre de concerts. En Mai 2007 Dinosaur Jr. sort un album intitulé "Beyond" sur le label Fat Possum Records avec la formation originale Jay Mascis/Lou Barlow/Murph.

Il revient à Montréal nous présenter les pièces de son plus récent compact Enemy Mine. Ne manquez pas votre chance de voir ce prolifique musicien canadien sur les planches!

Dan Bejar is an independent singer-songwriter from Vancouver who created Destroyer in 1995. He self-produced his first album, the lo-fi We'll Build Them a Golden Bridge, which was recorded at his in home studio in Vancouver. He was joined later by John Collins on City of Daughters after which he managed to put together a band. In 2000 the band broke up and Bejar took an extended vacation in Spain.

Following his brief break from Destroyer, he returned to Vancouver to release Thief in 2000. Interpreted by many critics as an indictment of the music industry, this album brought Destroyer significant recognition.

Following Thief's release, Bejar put more focus into his music, beginning his music contributions to The New Pornographers. After the 2001 release of Streethawk: A Seduction on Misra Records, Destroyer picked up something of a cult following. Having the band Frog Eyes play back-up for several shows inspired Notorious Lightning & Other Works, a reworking of six tracks from the previous album Your Blues with Frog Eyes once again as back-up.

Destroyer continued its sonic development with 2006's Destroyer's Rubies and 2008's Trouble in Dreams.

Buffy Sainte-Marie est une artiste folk avant tout, mais aussi une pacifiste engagée, une copine de Big Bird (oui, oui, elle a participé à plusieurs épisodes de Sesame Street et c’est très, très important chez nous) et une auteure oscarisée (pour « Up Where We Belong », une pièce qu’elle a coécrite et qui s’est retrouvée sur la trame sonore du classique An Officer and a Gentleman avec le beeeeeeeauuuuuuuu Richard Gere). Une rencontre à ne pas manquer!

Folk icon and First Nations legend Buffy Sainte-Marie became known in the 1960s as a writer of protest songs and love songs. "Inventors of 'Kraut Rock', iconoclasts extraordinaire, Faust are key figures in 20th Century music. In the early 70's, along with Can and Kraftwerk, they re-invented pop music as a specifically European art-form. Virtually imprisoned by Polydor in their own studio for two years, they were able to revolutionize the whole process of musical production; they improvised with Industrial noise, generated bizarre hypnotic grooves, indulged in shockingly wilful studio-based collages, and dabbled with every conceivable musical genre, sometimes simultaneously! Every now and then they found time for a burst of satirical pop, or occasional waves of delicate ambience. Amongst those Faust have strongly influenced we must count Brian Eno, Joy Division, Cabaret Voltaire, Test Department, Neubauten, My Bloody Valentine, Julian Cope and a host of Industrial and Techno bands. The music has lost none of it's immediacy or relevance - it sounds as if it was recorded last week, not last decade.

Os Mutantes est un groupe brésilien de musique psychédélique formé en 1966. Il est généralement considéré comme l'un des plus importants du mouvement tropicalia. Même dans une période d'exploration et d'expérimentation musicale, Os Mutantes se démarquait en étant inventifs avec leurs styles de musique qui embrasse le psychédélique, la pop, le blues, et le rock. Le groupe a expérimenté avec la distorsion, la sonorité des mots, des effets de réinjection (feedback) ainsi que des instruments de musique inhabituels pour créer un son pop libre et enjoué. Selon les notes de Everything is Possible, un des instruments principaux sur Le Premier bonheur du jour est un aérosol d'insecticide. Dans ses dernières années, Os Mutantes était sous une forte influence du rock progressif.

It was formed by two brothers and a vocalist, but has gone through numerous personnel changes throughout its existence. DJ /rupture is the pseudonym of Jace Clayton, a New York-based DJ and producer. He used to play in the drum and bass collective Toneburst, and DJ'ed in Boston during the late 1990s. His standard setup, used to mix Gold Teeth Thief among other works, involves three turntables, on which he creates complicated mixes—such as one with a cappella vocals, the second with breakbeats, and the third with ambient effects.

DJ /rupture's first big break came in 2001 with Gold Teeth Thief, a mix which combines hip hop, ragga, breakcore, jungle, noise, modern classical and music from around the globe. His second mixtape Minesweeper Suite was an even greater success, with the UK music magazine The Wire calling it one of the 10 best records of 2002. A year later, /rupture produced Special Gunpowder, his most critically acclaimed album to date. He has appeared on John Peel's BBC radio show twice, in addition to playing on The Breezeblock. /rupture is also part of the musical group Nettle and runs his own label, Soot Records. In 2008, he co-founded a new label with Matt Shadetek, called Dutty Artz.

In addition to his music, /rupture is becoming a well-known voice on the blog scene with musical and non-musical posts on his website, "Mudd Up!". He also writes for other publications such as The Wire on a freelance basis. /rupture deejays a show also called "Mudd Up!" on Wednesdays, 7-8p.m. on WFMU.
