The true story of Sixto Rodriguez, the greatest ’70s US rock icon who never was. Former Motown boss Clarence Avant signed him and released two albums, but despite good reviews, Rodriguez failed to chart. Further from home, his style struck a chord: in Apartheid-era South Africa he was “bigger than Elvis,” while Australian audiences kept him on the charts for 55 straight weeks. Stories about the elusive singer abounded — he died onstage, he overdosed – but, years later, in the Internet age, two dedicated fans decide to track him down.
