Pop Montreal International Music Festival has a film festival buddy, and its name is - shockingly - FilmPop!

Entering its fourth year in 2007, with over 40 features, shorts and music videos from countries including Canada, USA, Japan, Norway, Mexico, Australia and of course our own beloved city of Montreal, the 5-day festival aimed to present new independent cinema and its unsung cinematic forebears at a couple of unconventional Montreal venues.

Film Pop took place October 3-7, 2007. Features (intro'd by shorts and often followed by Q&As) took place at the Portuguese Association(4170 St-Urbain, just south of Rachel) while shorts and music videos were screened from 12-5 on Saturday and Sunday October 6th and 7th at the Film Pop screening room at the Puces Pop arts & crafts fair (4171 Esplanade, just south of Rachel).

Punk Le Vote!

Directed by: Eric "Roach" Denis
Produced by: EyeSteelFilm
72 mins.

Plagued by years of corruption and scandal, the Canadian government hasfallen. Prime Minister Paul Martin and his Liberal lapdogs have been tossedout in the cold Canuck winter, the same frostbitten playground on whichCanada¹s political elite will jostle for control of the country in theJanuary 2006 federal elections. It's a time of public apathy and politicaldisgrace. It's time for the punks to join the fray.

Roach and Starbuck, two hardcore punks from Montreal, try to form their ownpolitical party but run out of time due to Canada's electoral process.Instead, they decide to campaign for political office as independentcandidates. As they hit the campaign trail in one of Canada's wealthiestcommunities, each wants to do it his own way. While Roach proposes to reformour rotting electoral system, Starbuck's punk rock performance art isdesigned to shock the electorate into 'waking the fuck up.' Roach mounts amedia campaign proposing proportional representation; Starbuck campaignsdoor-to-door wearing a leather cape and a dildo, telling voters: 'If youlike it up the ass, vote Liberal'.

Anarchy or Federalism? what's the truepath for a punk?

In Punk Le Vote! Starbuck et les Impuissants perform throughout thefilm, including his hardcore hit “Débranchez-moi, débranchez-moi, jesuis un libéral! Débranchez-moi, débranchez-moi, je suis un malademental!” He goes on stage wearing the Canadian flag as a diaper thathides his strap-on dildo. Starbuck calls himself Le Roi du Rock and isin the process right now of getting his name legally changed toStarbuck Le Roi du Rock. He’s also a wrestler, a barman and bouncer ata club named “Café Chaos”, and he ran for political office three timesso far. His sold-out shows are the true spirit of punk rock: shockingthe hell out of people with political music.
