How Irma Thomas inspired The Rolling Stones
Irma Thomas
Did you know that Irma Thomas was the first to record one of The Rolling Stones' first hit songs? The legendary vocalist, who is featured at this year's POP Montreal Festival, was the first musician to sing Time is on my Side, a song that was originally written by American producer and composer Jerry Ragovoy. Gaining the attention of the music industry and the masses during that period was extremely hard for an African-American artist from Louisiana. The Rolling Stones got their hands on the record and liked the song so much that they made a single out of their own version. It became their first Top Ten hit in the US, and their first live feature on The Ed Sullivan Show. You can hear The Rolling Stones' version of the song on countless compilations. Irma Thomas' version can be heard here:
The charismatic diva's new album, Simply Grand, received four star reviews from The New York Times, The Boston Globe, and Billboard. She will be visiting the Ukrainian Federation on October 2. Click here to get your tickets to a genuine soul music experience.
