This summer, POP Montreal returns to the splendid venue that is the Théâtre de Verdure for its 2nd edition of POP Lafontaine, August 10th & 11th.
Canailles, Sergiu Popa, The Luyas & Technical Kidman will all be taking part in this two-night event.
Admission is free, so bring your blanket and come spend the evening at Parc Lafontaine with us!
Friday August 10th – 8pm

Canailles
With their patched-up instruments, sing-alongs and square dancing, Canailles promise a return to our roots. This Montréal bluegrass band was featured at this year’s SXSW Festival in Austin, TX, and performed at our own Francofolies last month. Their country/folk influences and retro vibe mean Canailles are sure to feel quite at home on the outdoor stage of the Théâtre de Verdure.
Sergiu Popa
Originally from Moldova, accordionist Sergiu Popa emigrated in Canada in 2002. The talented musician has studied and mastered different genres throughout the years, including Jewish, Turkish, Russian, Serbian and Bulgarian styles. Popa, considered to be one of the most brilliant accordionists in Canada, will bring out the gypsy in you at this year’s edition of POP Lafontaine.
Saturday August 11th – 8pm Technical Kidman & The Luyas
The Luyas (9:30-10:30)
Formed in 2006, The Luyas are not unfamiliar to the POP family, having played the festival back in 2008. We’re really excited to see frontwoman Jessie Stein (also from Miracle Fortress) take her moodswinger – a 12-string electric zither – out again.
