Anahita Norouzi

Montreal, QC

Commuting between her home country Iran and Canada for the past ten years, Anahita’s practice mostly investigates the themes of identity, migration, trauma, and memory from a psycho-historical point of view. She actively explores these concepts in relation to her dichotomous condition as an Iranian citizen and distant observer, from Canada, of her culture of origin.

Spanning writing, performance and video, her work emerges from an interest in what constitutes identity, as well as how one’s body is culturally relative to —and intertwined with—autobiographical structures. By employing storytelling strategies and combining documentary and fiction, Anahita examines how to think through image, text and memory as elements of an active archive; and time travel as an historical method.
