Lorraine Oades

Montreal, QC

A practicing artist and teacher for over 25 years, Lorraine Oades is inspired and buoyed by the lives and works of friends, students, and colleagues who help to generate hope and a sense of community around them. Oades sees her art practice as a process, where each new work adds an element or dimension to an open-ended continuum. Many of her artworks serve a commemorative function; they are ephemeral, performative monuments that focus, in part, on the value of engagement and creativity as essential life-giving and critically constructive forces.
Like most artists, she hopes her works will make some small mark on the world and add to a community of ideas, providing new perspectives for how we act and think about the past and future.
