Tyr Jami

Montreal, QC

Tyr Jami, is a classically trained cellist, musician and interdisciplinary artist. With a BFA from Concordia university in Cello Performance (2011), she has been playing in bands since she was 15, and this fall, will be starting her Masters at the University of Montreal in Electronic music. Inspired by her Icelandic great-grandmother, Ingibjorg Johnson’s recordings of Icelandic folk songs and poetry, she has developed an artistic practice within her Icelandic roots. In 2010 she founded the band Syngja, ethereal psychedelic electro-acoustic pop inspired by—and incorporating—her late great-grandmother’s cassette recordings that she continues to pull from in her musical compositions to this day.
