Moderated by Montreal beatmaker and law aficionado Dr. MaD, this panel discussion co-presented by CIMA will pair musicologists, artists and publishers to discuss the creative side of copyright laws. How close is too close? What elements of existing songs can artists safely sample or derive inspiration from? Especially in the world of sync, artists need to create safe copycats in responses to briefs. This panel considers how musicologists and publishers listen and how artists can respond to the needs of these experts.
