It’s the event of the year! A menial auto mechanic by day, Rico lives for his nights as a staple of East L.A.’s La Luna salsa club. Determined to make himself and girlfriend Vicky the King and Queen of Salsa, Rico will do whatever it takes to win the club’s annual competition, the prize of which is two tickets to beautiful Puerto Rico. But when Luna, the club’s owner, recognizes Rico’s prowess and decides to claim him as her own dance partner, Rico must decide what drives him: his ambition, or his heart. Rico’s crisis is further exacerbated by his infatuation with Lola, a classmate of his younger sister Rita. Rico convinces best friend Ken to distract Rita so that he might seduce Lola, only to later discover that Ken and Rita have fallen in love. Rico’s struggle to reconcile his many roles—dancer, lover, brother, and friend—is underscored by a rocking salsa soundtrack, featuring the music of Laura Branigan, Celia Cruz, Ben E. King, Miami Sound Machine, Tito Puente, and more. Produced by the always-reliable-for-a-good-time Cannon Films, Salsa is not to be missed.
