In collaboration with guest-curator Fred Savard, Film POP has invited POP Montreal featured artists Yamantaka // Sonic Titan to program a selection of NFB short films.
“The short films selected reflect our collective nostalgia while simultaneously giving the side eye to Canada's colonial legacy. A sarcastic streak runs through our selections; through creative appropriation and juxtaposition of existing film clips, or humorous explorations of identity, belonging and the subversion of societal expectations. Indigenous filmmakers play an important role here. Canada's historic and ongoing treatment of Indigenous peoples has resulted in a collective resentment and has also stoked the creative fires of multiple generations” —Alaska B. & Ange Loft
