We've returned from Canadian Music Week feeling wiser. We got to catch up with some amazing new favorite bands that we can’t get off of our minds as well as familiar faces who were playing in Toronto over the weekend. See what Sunflower Bean, JEFF The Brotherhood and TOPS were up to in the 416 in this Tête-à-Tête!
POP: Seeing as this isn't your first time in Toronto, do you have a favorite spot in the city to get black cherry pie?
JTB: We haven't had any pie in Toronto yet actually. We have a friend who recommended a good spot though.
POP: If you could choose one touring coat check girl to bring on the road with you, who would it be?
JTB: There's only one coat check girl. There will only ever be one coat check girl. She works for the state now.
POP: If you could do anything in the world after playing a show, what would you do?
JTB: Probably just the usual, take a piss, get a beer.
Hi Jane, David, Riley and Caila! Caila Thompson-Hannant (Mozart's Sister) joined TOPS on bass at their Lee's Palace show on Thursday night. It was groovy!
POP: What have you been up to in L.A.? Has the new location been influencing your music in any way?
Jane Penny: We have a house down here that we're recording in, it's been really nice to make music whenever we want. We haven't been trying to make the songs sound more Californian but you definitely start to notice how much popular music was written out here. "7 inches from the midday sun" makes a lot more sense for example.
POP: What was your favorite part of your CMW weekend in Toronto?
JP: I had fun partying with my friends! Show was great too :)
