Happy valentine's day! Ahead of her sold out Montreal show this weekend, Meg Remy of U.S. Girls took time to share her favourite love songs with us. Take a listen!
I love songs and "old" love songs are the songs I love the most. My favourites are the ones that sound like suffering. A fun game is to scan the oldies for cognitive distortions. Happy V-Day! - Meg Remy
Distortions Abound! (in no particular order)
Dead - Carolyn Sullivan
"With this razor in my hand, I'll remove my watch band..." Don't do it, girl.

Long Black Veil - Lefty Frizzell
To sacrifice your life rather than reveal an affair seems a bit cowardly, Lefty.

I Can Never Go Home Anymore - The Shangri-Las
Nothing like a love song about what a brat you were to Mom. Never say never.

90 % of Me is You - trois versions différentes
I know three versions of this song and am equally moved by each one. The lyrics are too real. You know that feeling when you become consumed by someone else, its such a dangerous place to be. The instrumental version gives off a slightly sea- sick vibe that I feel really suits the original lyrics. When you are 90% someone else, the 10% of you that is left is probably very ill, fighting hard for survival.

Only to Other People - The Cookies
Whining often makes the best singing.

I Wish I Were That Girl - Wendy Rene
No, be you!

Contract On Love - Little Stevie Wonder
If someone asks you to sign a contract on love, don't lawyer up...just walk away.

Young Boy Blues - Ben E. King
"Each night is like a thousand years..." Damn, that hurts.

These Four Walls - Irma Thomas
Sorry, but the one room apartment your married lover is hiding you in is not a palace! Still, this song means the world to me. Irma's voice deserves an Academy Award.

You Didn't Try To Call Me - Ruben & the Jets (aka Frank Zappa)
This song is hilariously outdated. No one sits around at home waiting for calls anymore. However, now we carry our devices around, in perpetual waiting... waiting to be poked, touched, acknowledged, loved.
Note: If you seek this album out, make sure you are listening to the OG 1968 version. They released some remastered mess where they re-did the drums and its unlistenable.

My Man - Jennifer Lara
When you can't sleep with someone but you can't sleep without them, you are in trouble.
