Poland, with its 40 million citizens, is one of the biggest European markets. While 10 or 5 years ago "emerging” would have been the word to describe it, right now this is not the case.
From a very competitive festival market right down to the thriving DIY scene, this is the country where record sales actually grow. So naturally, more and more people want in. Doing it right is the main concern. While still open, the Polish market has its doorkeepers and it’s own internal rules. Not getting lost in all of that usually means finding a good local partner.
If you are looking for a sustainable career and not quick cash anywhere, finding the right partner is crucial. As a person working with talent, often from day one I know how much patience and perseverance is needed to find your way in this ever-changing eco system that is the Polish music industry. As more and more friends, agents and managers get in touch about their artists, I see how important good matchmaking is. And while I am happy to accommodate some of the acts sent my way (this includes a whole Montreal bunch), another part of my job is pointing artists to the right people, being it a promoter, festival or a PR person. And finally wait for the best moment – the sound of a magic "click".
