We teamed up with SPC BMO to hook up one lucky winner a one-of-a-kind exclusive prize pack from POP Montreal! Our grand prize Winner, Valerie Cesar, took her Extra Super Pass and made the most of the POP experience.
I received an email to participate in a contest sponsored by #BMOExtraDeals and SPC Card to win tickets to POP Montreal’s festival, happening September 21st-25th.
I was quite delighted when I heard that I had won the grand prize: TWO SUPER PASSES!
To maximize the experience, with the help of my contact Olivia Diamond and POP Montreal's superb phone app, I made a plan to see a total of 16 artists out of the 450+ performing, minus all the activities!
With live music at POP Quarters BBQ, impossible to not have a good time right from the start! The opening party also had a candy buffet to satisfy everyone's sweet tooth.
Here are my top 5 moments of POP Montreal:
1.Leif Vollebekk @ Rialto Rooftop (Friday): This show was the perfect way to end a first week at my new job! Such a beautiful location at sunset and the perfect songs to make the moment memorable.
2.Ibrahim Maalouf @ Maison Symphonique (Friday): The trumpeter and his fellow musicians played Kalthoum, a famous Arabic song sung by the late Egyptian singer Oum Kalthoum. This had to make my top 5 list because of my love for jazz. He managed to keep everyone at awe while making us laugh and sing. Such a great discovery!
3.John Cale @ Théâtre Rialto : Salle St-Ambroise (Thursday): The rock singer had the crowd going! It was my first time in the Théâtre Rialto and I was completely amazed by the beauty of this place. There were available seats in the front but by the end of the show everyone was on their feet!
4.Kandle & The Krooks @ Toit Ubisoft (Saturday): Another rooftop event in my top picks. This time it was after sunset with some stars shining above us. The indie rock group was above my expectations. A new addition to my playlist!
5.Angel Olsen @ Théâtre Rialto: Salle St-Ambroise (Friday): The theater was packed upstairs and down, proof of how good this show was.
Special mention: John Waters @ Théâtre Rialto that made the whole theater cry of laughter!
The Super Pass had its perks: 2 drinks and 1 beer everyday, no lineup, and the freedom of hopping around to catch as many shows as possible. Oh, and yes, with it you will definitely 'POP, 'til you drop'!
Overall I enjoyed discovering new artists and the underground music festival while getting around town to catch as many shows as possible. I will definitely check out next year's lineup!
