Film POP 2019 Takes Over Famous Mile End Theater !
Film POP 2019 includes portraits of two of the most vital music geniuses portraits in recent memory, D’Angelo and R. Stevie Moore.
The program additionally boasts films that shed light on underrepresented music subcultures. Co-presented with Goethe Institut, Berlin Bouncer gives us access to the secrets of Berlin nightlife; The Juniper Tree is notable for being the screen-debut of pop megastar Björk, Black to Techno explores the origins and impact of Detroit Techno, from its birthplace in the black, working and middle-class experience to its subsequent cultural dominance in West Berlin; Other Music re-opens the doors of the most beloved New-York record store, also a hotbed for the city’s indie scene at the turn of the millennium.
Film POP is proud to be renewing its collaboration with the Phi Foundation for a 1-night only screening of single-channel video works by American conceptual artist Tony Cokes, guest curated by Cheryl Sim, and to be working with POP Montreal 2019-featured artists Yamantaka // Sonic Titan, to present two guest-curated NFB shorts programs.
