Film POP is once again thrilled to include Adrian Burhop’s VHS shorts in our 2020 lineup!
Since 2015, local filmmaker Adrian Burhop has been producing a series of low-fi VHS videos dedicated to the classic businesses of Mile End. The videos are hard to classify; they land somewhere between sketch comedy, documentary and 1980s television advertising. Each one is shot on location with a 30 yr-old Panasonic VHS camera. (No iPhone filters or post-production gimmicks here). His main collaborator has been Daniel Francis Haber who’s taken on filming, performing and editing duties. Burhop has also worked with other local Montreal artists such as Beaver Sheppard, Bernardino Femminielli and comedian Mike Paterson, to name a few. This is his third year of screenings at Film Pop/Cinema Moderne and he is currently working on a portrait series with Australian photographer, Tim Georgeson, devoted to all the characters he has created.
