We are pleased to introduce Jennifer Dorner as our new Executive Producer. Welcome to the POP Montreal family! Get to know a bit more about her below.
Where are you from?
I am from a class M planet called Earth. I was born in the capital city of British Columbia, then moved to the capital of Ontario, then to the capital of Nova Scotia, and finally settled in Montreal, Quebec in 2005. It seems that I’m happiest not in a capital city.
If your life had a theme song it would be:
That’s a tough one. The theme song I wish would represent my life would be Alicia Keys ‘Girl on Fire’ because I dream of taking down the colonial capitalist patriarchy. But in reality, I’m a bit of a geek and I spend a lot of time hunched over my laptop reading policy while my daughter practices trumpet in the background. And my family is German/Canadian, so I’ll go with MEUTE’s version of ‘You & Me’.
Favourite concert you’ve seen?
If I measure based on goosebumps, I’d say seeing Jeremy Dutcher at Club Soda a couple of years ago. He was singing with his ancestors and with those of us lucky enough to be in the same room. The experience was so beautiful, powerful, important and moving. He was very funny and charismatic, amazing concert all around.
Favourite year at POP?
I have favourite moments from every year, but I enjoyed 2016 because I had a pass giving me full access to all festival events and it felt like I was winning the whole time. That year, I participated on a panel called ‘Thinking Outside the Universe’ and got to meet like-minded artists from around the world equally obsessed with outer space.
Anything else to add?
I’m so happy to be joining POP. It’s a strange time to be starting a new job, but zoom has allowed me to meet the team and their passion is tangible. These days, I’m reminded that no matter what, artists will continue to create, perform and help us make sense of the world. Right now, it feels like the world needs social solidarity more than ever, what better way than through the arts! I’m excited to help make this happen.
