Karl Hofstetter

he/him

Karl Hofstetter founded Joyful Noise Recordings as a freshman in college. Over nearly two decades, the label has grown a diverse roster of artists including Deerhoof, Kishi Bashi, WHY?, Tropical F*ck Storm, Swamp Dogg, El Ten Eleven, The Ophelias, and Montreal natives SUUNS, No Joy, and Cedric Noel. JNR has been at the forefront of several industry trends, pioneering the subscription model, cassette resurgence, and exploring innovative physical product curation – such as their “12-sided” Dale Crover record, vinyl/CD hybrids, playable etched records, etc. In addition, JNR has curated an array of artist collaborations (such as a Bernie Sanders / Thurston Moore record back in 2016).
