Butthole Surfers, Dinosaur Jr., Faust and others part of the 2009 Pop Montreal line-up!

We are thrilled to announce the first of the headliners for the 2009 edition of the POP Montreal International Music Festival. Some of them are our heroes, some are iconoclasts, some we have been planning for years, and all are simply excellent and praiseworthy.

Get in Touch with Your Reggae Roots

This year Montreal's International Jazz Festival iscelebrating the sounds of Jamaican rocksteady with daily screenings of thedocumentary Rocksteady: The Roots of Reggae starting July 4 until the July 12thThe real treat takes place at 9p.m. on July 7th on the General MotorStage. Not only will all the greatest reggae musicians be present, but also thisevent is free. Can you really afford missing Hopeton Lewis, Judy Mowatt,Stranger Cole or Marcia Griffiths? Yea, I didn’t think so.

And, since we know thatattending solely this event will not satisfy Pop readers, we are hosting aspecial afterparty.

Remembering an Epic Night

Visual aids are always nice for those who didn't attend the event because they get to see exactly what they missed.

In this case, I would have to argue that they missed out on quite an experience

And, for all those who attended this small gathering but have a hard time recollecting their thoughts, these visual aids will hopefully help you figure out what happen.

Très bonne St-Jean!

For the thid year in a row, jubilant masses, textbook summer weather, and some solid sounds from Ghislain Poirier, Khiasma, and Speakerbruiser made St-Jean memorable. Thanks for coming out, and check out what Anne-Marie Bergeron saw under the overpass.

Girls and ice cream

We met up with all-ladies band (they’re not girls anymore, y’know) Pony Up at an ice cream shop on Bernard to talk about the release of Stay Gold, their second full-length. Fresh off a short Australian tour, Laura (Rasberry-Vanilla), Lindsay (Chocolate) and Lisa (Strawberry)—Sarah couldn’t make it—talked about the long road that led finally, to an independent release.

The other autre Saint-Jean

As you know, things are shaky around l'Autre Saint-Jean. While Pop Montréal is doing its own thing - yep, the Bridge Burner is back! - the day after, we still asked our DJs their thoughts about the situation...
