About POP Montreal

24 Years!

POP Montreal International Music Festival is an annual not-for-profit curated cultural event that champions independence in the arts by presenting emerging and celebrated artistic talents from around the world.

POP Montreal International Music Festival is an annual not-for-profit curated cultural event that champions independence in the arts by presenting emerging and celebrated artistic talents from around the world.  Some of the highlighted artists that have performed at the festival over the years include Alanis Obomsawin, Patti Smith, Mavis Staples, Grimes, Patrick Watson, Kaytranada and SOPHIE.

Launched by friends and colleagues in 2002 from an impulse to create meaningful and vibrant experiences in the city, the non-profit festival is now a fixture in the Montreal festival circuit and the international music scene.

POP Montreal is a registered charity. We are grateful for any donations, which will help ensure that POP Montreal continues to support artists and connect them with audiences.

Along with the fall festival POP collaborates with community partners to produce hundreds of cultural events each year and offers many free and affordable events in accessible public spaces.

POP Montreal is proud to say that it has been listening to every artist that applies to the festival since its creation 23 years ago. Year after year, music curators, musicians, and professionals get together for listening sessions to vote. These outstanding submissions make up a central portion of the festival’s programming.

The festival offers symposium discussions, craft and visual art exhibitions, children’s activities, film screenings, and, of course, a few all-night parties ;)

Environmental Initiatives

The POP Montreal team is also happy to announce that there will be no plastic bottles or straws in venues operated by the festival. There won’t be any bottled water at our bars or backstage, but never fear, there will be water fountains accessible to everybody. Bring your reusable bottles! As for our glasses, they’re locally made from corn starch, making them compostable! In addition, to help us in our eco-responsible initiatives, we have Consignaction as partners who help with the deployment of recycling bins on our sites such as the Rialto complex and L'Entrepôt 77. Our partnership with RECYC-QUÉBEC helps educate us on concrete actions that we can do at events and as citizens. Resources are available on their website. Finally our partners Le Consortium Echo-logique, produce a report on waste/recycling/composting on our sites to help us better target our actions year after year.

CODE OF CONDUCT + SAFETY MEASURES

As we come together during the festival, please be mindful that COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses are still circulating in our community.

If you're experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home and take a test!

If you're sick and have purchased a ticket, you can request a refund as late as the day of the show before doors open.

We encourage masks to be worn in indoor venues out of concern for our immunocompromised audience members and for the artists playing the shows. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available at POP run venues: Rialto Complex and Marché des possibles sur De Gaspé.

A selection of events will be held outside and a variety of shows at our outdoor venues on De Gaspé and the Rialto Rooftop will be offered this year. These will be indicated with a __symbol in the program.
