Arcana Clay

Arcana Clay is the ceramic work of Shawna Cooper. Shawna Cooper was raised in Toronto, Canada where she studied printmaking and painting at the Ontario College of Art. The path to ceramics traversed many other mediums. Initially working on paper and canvas then textiles. Shawna spent many years working on design and print of garments and fabric including design and creating merchandise for bands and music festivals. In 2020 ceramics captivated her, a daily practice of throwing and hand building ensued. Now working between studios in Guelph, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec Shawna applies principals of design to her hand painted surfaces. Working with clay continues to be an overwhelmingly fulfilling practice. Crafting functional pieces with an intention to facilitate a heightened experience for the user where the act of nourishing or drinking is amplified by a vessel itself, is both a means to connect and a source of delight. Playfulness in the making is intended to be communicated in the finished pieces.
