bonita mona

Terrebonne, QC

Mona, a nickname my mother gave me when I was a little girl. A connection to a woman I love deeply and admire for her strength, a strength I now realise I share with her.

bonita mona has its roots in my childhood. My sense of fashion often made me stand out from the crowd; I was the child with colourful clothes in the school playground. I readily admit that I was a little eccentric, or even ahead of my time, but like many young people, I was absorbed by the creativity that surrounded me.

Paths are never straight, and even before the first bag saw the light of day, I spent many years as a sock designer. It’s a passion that has never left me. You’re just as likely to find me knitting wool socks as you are to see me browsing socks in a high-end boutique.

Another detour, another valuable experience. As if collecting pencils for a craft box, I accumulated knowledge about textiles and shapes by designing sportswear, jumpers and coats for a local women-run company.

The destination, my dream, was within reach. It was during my honeymoon in Japan, a destination I had coveted for 15 years, that the final pieces finally fell into place. My return to my roots. A deep passion for accessories, one that would not sacrifice comfort or warmth for the sake of design and quality materials. I returned full of energy, determined to create a bag that was cosy, cute and sophisticated. Here is a bubble that I hope will never burst!
