Cutty Ranks, a native of Kingston, spent part of his time in Bernard st Mary Jamaica,Before moving
back to east Kingston area.Cutty was born Phillip Thomas on February 12,1965. He is a successful
artiste and entrepreneur who waste no time to identify creative ways to enhance his professional
career. Cutty Ranks is an exceptionally talented artiste, known internationally for his brutal
distinct sound and unmeasurable lyrical potency that keeps him way ahead of the game and an
inspiration to others.
By his mid teens, Cutty Ranks left his job where he worked as a butcher at the Cross Roads Market,
to make a name for himself as a DJ at the root of the dancehall era, when sound systems were
operated by tube amplifiers and steel horns. He performed on Feathertone, Rebeltone, Papa Roots
and Gemini disco during his early part of his career. He later performed on Metro Media,
Killamanjaro, Sturmars and Arrows international among others. Initially, he was influenced by
legendary Daddy U Roy, Josey Wales and Bob Marley. Overtime he developed and mastered his
own sound that made him stood out from his peers.
As a means to survive, Cutty Ranks sold packaged rice and oil throughout the streets of downtown
Kingston. He became involved in the wrong company and quickly weighed his options, kill or be
killed, or continue to do music. The rest is history. Growing up without a mother and father he was
adopted into a family that he today considers to be the only true definition of a family to date.
With Seventeen (17) #1 hits under his belt including “Limb By Limb”, “A Who Seh Mi Done” (Wait
Deh Mon), “The Bomber”, The Stopper”, “Half Idiot” (with Marcia Griffiths), and “Love Mi Affi Get”
(with Beres Hammond), Cutty Ranks continues to blaze his own trail to remain relevant primarily
on the international scene. Beloved by his fans in Central America, Cutty Ranks recorded his first
Spanish single in the mid 90s titled “Damé Tu Cosita” (Los Cuentos De La Cripta).

alien appearing to be dancing on Mars, has sparked a dance challenge frenzy by millions of people
around the world. In under two months, the video has almost four (400) hundred million views
and continues to stream with over 4billions views on Youtube alone currently and has propelled
