Erika Angell

Erika Angell is a Swedish-Canadian experimental and avant-garde vocalist, musician, and composer who has lived in Montreal since 2013. She is known for her unconventional and exploratory artistry, defying categorization as a poetic and audacious force in genre-defying music. Her voice has been described as "a guiding presence" (Exclaim!), one that "splits the difference between the divine and demonic, skillfully unhinged" (Under the Radar), and one that "sits alongside the greatest indie female artists who are not afraid of anything" (Le Devoir). Erika's career spans more than two decades and has been characterized by a relentless pursuit of originality and a desire to traverse genres. She co-leads the celebrated Polaris Music Prize–nominated avant-rock band Thus Owls. Her earlier projects include the Swedish vocal-bass duo Josef & Erika, the electronic noise group The Moth, and the new music trio Beatings Are In The Body, which she co-founded. Erika has toured extensively around the world in support of these and many other projects, such as Patrick Watson, Land Of Kush, Loney Dear, The Bernard Lakes etc. After releasing sixteen self-produced albums, Erika decided to release music under her own name. Her solo debut, The Obsession With Her Voice (2024), was her first release on the legendary Constellation Records. It is a fierce and deeply feminine work that received widespread critical acclaim and was named one of the best albums of 2024 by the prestigious music magazine The Quietus.
