Janette King
Janette King is a Caribbean-Canadian alternative RnB artist whose work often explores the intersections of identity, love, and self-discovery, creating a powerful narrative of empowerment and resilience. On October 18th, Janette King released her brand new album, Incantation, via Birthday Cake Records. This highly anticipated project is a deeply personal exploration of love, self-discovery, and the complexities of human relationships. From the Lauryn Hill-inspired harmonies in “Here,” a tribute to enduring love across distance, to the introspective quest for fulfillment in “This Might Be It,” the songs tackle themes of longing, desire, and acceptance. Tracks like “Taboo” and “While You Were Sleeping” explore queer love, attraction, and societal constraints, while others like “People Say” and “When That’s Gone” reflect on life’s impermanence, unfulfilled dreams, and emotional growth. While bittersweet at times, Janette’s lush melodies and vocals shine through with a clear warmth, passion, and zeal for life.
In support of the album’s release, Janette will kick off the Incantation Tour at the end of the month and bring the album to life on stage across Canadian venues.
