Manhattan-based singer-songwriter, painter, and actor Katy Pinke’s angular songforms bring to mind Bill Callahan and Syd Barrett’s winding musical syntaxes. Her avant-rock arrangements are full of playful and unnerving complications, with Pinke outlining her characters’ trains of thought in a lithe soprano that recalls Connie Converse or Blossom Dearie. She also performs with handmade puppets.
Collaborators on her most recent LP release, Strange Behavior, include Nico Osborne (Thanya Iyer, Nicomo), Jeremy Gustin (Joan As Policewoman, Star Rover), Will Graefe (Joan As Policewoman, Star Rover, Maya Hawke), Nate Mendelsohn (Frankie Cosmos, Lady Lamb), Steve Becker (Rubblebucket) and Trixie Whitley.
