Liturgy

Liturgy is an experimental music project, helmed by Haela Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix, which has developed the distinctive and influential ‘transcendental black metal’ style over 20 years and 7 albums. She is noted for original, emotive and complex compositions at the intersection of avant-garde music, extreme metal, screamo and math rock and also for working at the intersection between music, philosophy, fine art and theology. She has written philosophical texts and produced films and art exhibitions that are integrated with her musical output and career. 2011’s Aesthethica album was her original breakout album, followed by 2015’s highly controversial The Ark Work. 2019’s H.A.Q.Q. was widely seen as a synthesis of the preceding albums, 2020’s Origin of the Alimonies was an opera accompanied by a film starring and created by Hunt-Hendrix, which was performed with a chamber orchestra at REDCAT in Los Angeles and at Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands. After 2023’s 93696, the longest and most elaborate Liturgy album, the direction of the project has turned towers nuance. Following a year of extensive solo touring across the world, in 2026 Liturgy released a trove of early low-fi recordings from the early solo era of the band, 2005’s The Paranoiac Miracle, 2007’s Immortal Life and 2008’s Harmonium
