Puces POP
Taryn Fleischmann
I am an arts programming coordinator and exhibitions curator for the Museum of Jewish Montreal. In 2021 I began a ceramics practice, learning from friends and peers, which eventually led me to Studio Plaza Ceramique where I experiment with hand-building and create a variety of ceramic pieces. As I continue to learn ceramic techniques and practices, I am particularly interested in collaborating with the material rather than exercising full control over it. In my process I set aesthetic parameters for each piece, while embracing unexpected directives from the clay. Some pieces are functional (bowls, plates, vases), while others are ornamental (wall hangings and sculpture). Regardless of their intended use, my pieces are whimsical and organic, which reflects their hand-made nature.
