Every artist needs something in order to play. Rest, money, a ride home, a booth you can actually work in, a night that doesn’t cost you the next three days. But the conditions of making music don’t always make it easy to ask for what we need, or even recognize what’s getting in the way.
Facilitated by the founders of Toronto-based Crip Rave, this panel brings artists together to talk about what it’s like to make music right now: the conditions we’re working within, what they ask of us, and what we need and want from them. From there, we’ll consider why some of these conversations get called accessibility while others don’t, what makes access feel relevant or irrelevant to different people, and how that conversation might reach further while still remaining grounded in the knowledge and experiences of disabled and Mad people.
