Confluence (from our waters to our water) is a communi- ty-based photo project showcasing the images taken by youth participants at LOVE Qc’s Advanced Photo Club (APC). APC is a social photography club that brings together emotional intelligence and visual art. Created as an initiative to combat social isolation and summertime teenage ennui, APC utilizes the camera as a tool to examine the role and impact of perspective. Photography becomes an act of noticing, and of agency. Through which lens do you see the world, and how does the frame you place around it alter the meaning? What do you notice, and how does it affect your perception? Along with learning new photography skills, members of APC built a supportive community and pushed themselves to try new things. The photos reflect their efforts to be more intentional with their work—taking an idea and learning how to develop it until it matches the image they had in mind. This show is a snapshot of their growth, both as photographers and as individuals; going from individual plurality to collective singularity.
