Set in a tree-lined neighborhood in Montréal’s Little Italy, La Cancha offers a snapshot of a popular community basketball court and the locals who gather there. The film immerses us in the heart of the community—both on the court and on the sidelines. Shot over four years, it captures a range of activities at La Cancha, from friendly pick-up games and intense tournaments to the playful antics of two boys running through puddles during a summer storm. The filmmaker’s approach is direct and unintrusive; while the subjects are aware of the camera, they remain natural and uncensored, allowing the camaraderie and conversations to feel genuine and real.
