POP Montreal, Montreal’s best indie festival, is about to celebrate its 25th birthday and returns to SXSW to curate 5 must-see acts from Québec and Canada at Swan Dive:

8 pm Fine Food Market
Fine Food Market is the folk dream-pop project of Montreal-based multi-disciplinary artist Sophie Perras. Drawing from her training as a classical pianist and inspired by the sound of her beloved PSR3000 keyboard, the songs of Fine Food Market are intuitive, emotional, and fun.
9 pm Hanorah
Hanorah is a singer, songwriter, and visual artist from Montréal, Canada. Influenced by the likes of Etta James, Joss Stone, and Amy Winehouse, the combination of Hanorah’s powerful voice and the vulnerability of her messaging naturally drew her to soul music. Hanorah toured through Canada and the U.S. supporting artists such as Mavis Staples, Coeur de Pirate, and Seratones.
10 pm SamWoy
To a growing group of those in the know, the name SamWoy evokes epic and exhilarating music that bends genres. Sam Woywitka is the mastermind behind the project, which has grown to encompass a collective of some of Montreal’s most dynamic musicians.
11 pm SLASH NEED
Toronto’s industrial performance art outfit Slash Need have become a conduit for a collective and defiant form of liberation. The duo craft songs that slither, satirize, and scream. Sonically aligned with artists like Boy Harsher, Ministry, and Skinny Puppy, their live show traces an urgency familiar to anyone who’s ever felt combustible in their rage against systems of power.
12 am Sunforger
Sunforger is the output of Montreal-based songwriter Spencer Curtis (Dories, Doffing), who crafts songs on a four-stringed guitar in a unique tuning. The lineup is rounded out by sibling Piper Curtis (knitting) on bass, longtime collaborator Chris Hauer (Ada Lea) on lead guitar, and Kier Graham (Dylan) on drums. Sunforger is post-punk, post-grunge, and post everything.
